Erica L. Auster
Erica Auster practices family law with a focus on helping clients navigate difficult transitions with compassion and attention. She understands the emotional trauma of divorce, the complexities of co-parenting relationships and the impact these transitions have on her clients' futures.
Auster began her legal career in commercial litigation and real estate but quickly realized her true passion was helping people through challenging family law matters. In 2005, she joined a Grand Rapids family law firm and discovered her calling in listening to people facing difficult choices and helping them navigate toward their future.
In 2006, Auster co-founded Johnsen & Wikander with Jennifer Johnsen — now Judge Johnsen — creating a boutique family law firm. She later became a founding member of Velzen, Johnsen & Wikander before rebuilding the original Johnsen Wikander firm in 2017. Auster has been helping clients through their most difficult journeys for over 17 years.
Auster's goal is to vigorously and compassionately represent her clients while protecting their interests and legal rights. She recognizes that each client has different needs and is committed to providing individual attention and candid legal advice. Having experienced divorce herself, she brings personal understanding to her practice.
Auster received her undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Michigan in 2000 and her law degree from Wayne State University in 2004. She was admitted to practice in Michigan’s State and Federal Courts in November 2004.
In her free time, Auster enjoys spinning on her Peloton, traveling to visit family, watching Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions games, attending her teenage children's sporting events and spending time with her black lab and pug.
